2022 NFL Preseason Week 2: Houston Texans @ L.A. Rams

Updated: Aug 19, 2022

Looking for L.A. to win outright: Betting Rams ML +140

Teams that made the prior postseason and that are taking a field goal or less from squads that did not qualify to participate in last playoffs have proven great moneyline bets in non-conference, preseason NFL action.

Adhering to this simple, history-based system has amassed a 26% return on investment back to the 2004-05 season. This angle is 1-1 so far this year, good for a 15% ROI.

For week 2 of NFL Preseason action, a play is triggered on the defending champion LA Rams, of the National Football Conference, versus the visiting, AFC-member Houston Texans. Houston has not earned a postseason berth since 2019 (when the Texans lost to the Chiefs in the Divisional round).

Houston opened as 2.5 point dogs earlier this week, but were quickly upgraded to three-point favorites. Since that point though, the spread has tightened to Texans -2 (Rams +2).

After cashing in on L.A. versus the number last week, we jumped on the Rams for the week 2 win at +140. Current consensus odds of +110 are less attractive, but we endorse the home team for the "W" at any plus-money odds.

Note: a play on the Cowboys' moneyline is likewise triggered per this system, but, at the risk of muting our profitability, we are taking the three point cushion and playing America's team against the spread rather than backing Dallas for the win. See here for the rationale underlying this more conservative Cowboys wager.

Happy betting!!
