The betting total for the Pelicans at Pistons has crept higher from its opening level of 213.5 yesterday to as high as 217 this afternoon, before settling at the current 216.5. Driving the widening of the number, 88% of dollars wagered on the O/U are backing higher scores (as well as 62% of the number of O/U bets). The interest in the OVER might relate to the return of key personnel for Detroit.
We note that in regular season NBA action of the past featuring East/West matchups, the OVER has proven the play when the percent of dollars bet on higher scores exceeded the percent of bets by at least ten, and when the total has moved at least a point higher as a result.
Back to 2015-16 season, this angle has not delivered a cover rate below 50% and has been good for an aggregate 12% return on investment.
